Usually shot with the ubiquitous burn in the foreground, I preferred a very graphic approach on this occasion and to let the hill speak for itself. It can perform its solo with no accompanyment can the Buchaille! Indeed, as I shot this a photographer was dashing across the moor for fear of missing the stream out - totally ignoring the amazing cloud that whisked across the summit in a matter of seconds and which is the making of the shot.
\r\n
\r\nLimited Edition of 195
\r\n
\r\n70cm x 35cm","","Ted Leeming","Glen Coe, Scotland","","",13500,18);backgrounds[5415085]=new photo(5415085,"238586","","section349001","CadequesCoastWEB.jpg",600,300,"",0,0,"Cadaques Coast
\r\nI spent four early mornings walking this stretch of the Cadaques coast looking for the right spot. Each time I thought I was there and each day I ventured a little further from the village to find something new and of increased interest. This was my last morning at the location and I spent 3 hours developing a series of images as the sun woke up. I include two in this portfolio, really to show how an almost identically framed composition can look very different as the light changes and with little adjustments in shutter speed.
\r\n
\r\nI should say that I got extremely wet feet on this shoot and had to be extremely careful not to get swept off the rocks. And that meant a very early start to be at the top of the hill before dawn. The valley was in thick mist as I awoke but aI crossed my fingers and hope for something better later in the day. As the dawn broke the heat of the day began to disipate the cloud that shrouded the entire valley (only the very peaks of Snowdonia National Park were visible above the cloud at first light). It was another breathtaking morning.
\r\n
\r\nThis shot was taken some 4-5 hours after leaving the van as the sun's rays rose high enough to penetrate the cloud and hit the fields below. I stayed on the tops for about 2 hours and was half way down beore I saw the second climbers of the day (other than the couple who had slept out on the tops!)stuggling their way up in what was turning into a blisteringly hot day. I had waited a long time for a day like this and I was going to enjoy it.
\r\n
\r\nThe light itself only came good for photography for a short period of time through the evening, but I was ready for it when it came, and managed to shoot of a series of different views, each slightly different and each with its own signature. I crouched down, keeping my body between the camera and the unbelieveable swell that soaked with its every wave, to minimise the amount of spray hitting the lens. I would set up the tripod on its lowest setting, keeping the legs wide for stability and then, having watched the rhythm of the seas would take the plastic bag off the camera, frame and shoot. On each occasion I had less than 5 seconds to complete the process before the wave would break over me and the kit to an equal extent as that appearing in the photo. After every shot I would return to the camper to dry everything off and clean the lens and filters, before heading out for another try. In total I shot about 20 frames over a period of 2 hours. Even then, many frames were ruined by splay on the lens.
\r\n
\r\nFrom the outset of processing, the image just cried out to be black and white.","","Ted Leeming","Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland","","",16139,18);
